Dramatic Lighting

Hi There!

I hope you are doing well right about now.  I really enjoyed my recent visit to North Carolina with
family and then friends.  J-ville has been rainy since our return, so I actually haven't been out in
the sweltering heat down here yet.

As always, the raccettes (female raccoons) and their babies are clamoring at the door for more food...
We buy huge (as in 52 lbs) bags of dog food and we dole it out by the scoop----which incidentally came from
a Jacksonville Suns (not so good baseball team) game.  It's a little blue baseball cap which came with
ice cream in it originally.  Somehow it seems oddly appropriate to feed small animals with-----because
it's a small serving...??! Okay, I admit I can't throw anything away....

Any who, two of the regular raccettes come and bring their babies.  "The Pretty One" brings three, and our
little adopted "Baby" who hasn't reached normal size yet, brings along two.  They are so very adorable...
as I hope you can see above.

I have hundreds (if not thousands) of raccoon pictures because they come to our back door everyday---
we are conveniently located for the racs on the marsh.  This picture was striking because of the
unusual lighting.  I didn't plan it that way.  It just turned out to be very interesting.  I cropped out
a couple of distractions, but didn't try to touch up the eyes or anything.  I like the dramatic lighting
with the back light outlining some of the fur.

Photip:  Spot meter on the middle tones and you might come up with something like this.  If I had
metered on the black mask or white around the nose you would lose the extreme contrast of the light.

It works for me.  How do you like it?

Blessings!
