Can an owl be your pal?

Hi--hope you are dong well.  It's warming up slightly, if that darn wind would stop, it would
be really nice down here in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Guess you can see from my pic the subject of conversation this week.  I've heard an owl
hooting loudly very close to my house several times but never seen it.  We have big (as in huge)
old oak trees out here by the marsh on our lot.  They're covered with Spanish moss (is there moss named
after any other country--like Peruvian moss or Italian moss?).... which doesn't hurt the tree, but
can cause problems when it gets too heavy or blocks the leaves from the sun & their ensuing
photosynthesis.

Late Saturday afternoon I heard the owl & spotted him/her in a tree in our yard.  The branch
hangs over into the next door neighbor with 3 small (and sometimes loud) little boys.  I took pictures from the
ground initially---like this one with the spotlight of sun on the lovely barred owl.

Then went onto the balcony to take some.  These were aimed toward the neighbors who were
all out in the yard.  I felt a little weird & didn't want them to think I was some kinda perve, so
I went down & showed them the owl.  It was hard to spot at first because of the great camo.
Then they understood what I was aiming at.

It was at least 18ft & quite safe.  It was kinda napping, occasionally turning it's head when the
kids were loud.  It eventually made a very loud & puffy hoot again & this time it got so much
attention that it left.  Kinda sad. I hope it will come back...

PHOTOP:  A bird in the hand....take pix when you have the chance.  You may never get another
shot at it---literally.
Blessings!
