Making cents of the Census
Spring has sprung down here in the south & it's lovely...
Now, the main subject today is that I am being hired to help with the Census, but I must understand that
"this is a temporary job which can last up to four months but can end at any time".
I'm just a little bit bummed because I had my blog all done last night and GoDaddy didn't save it for some
reason... it's always something... I heard about the Census jobs back in January & took a test in February.
Got called March 20 about training the last week in April. So, I guess the job actually starts in May. There's
something to be said for planning ahead.
Since then I've gotten two other calls to make sure I was still planning to come to training. It starts tomorrow.
I AM PLANNING TO COME if there is still a speck of doubt in anyone's mind. Here's the part that is bothering me
we are going to train for four full days to be able to help people answer 10 questions.
Hopefully, the training will include things like how to exit quickly & safely from a person brandish a shotgun or
telling pit bulls to attack you. If you didn't send your form back, some one will be coming to your house. Please
remember they're just a person with a part time job which could end and anytime without any violence occurring.
Census takers are not the US Government---just someone like you & me who needs a job. Please don't harm us...
we don't actually have to see you....you could answer the questions with a bag over your head if you like.
I went onto the www.census2010 website and took the practice test. The way some things are asked or are explained
can be confusing. The questions included filling out number forms, comparing names & spelling, following a street map
and drawing the right conclusion from answers to questions about family members & rent. I got a 24 out of 28 on the
practice test.
When I took the real deal, I only know I passed. The youngster administering the test would tell you if you passed.
What score was passing? You had to get 10 correct out of the 28. Things may be different now, but where I come
from that's an "F"! I guess that could explain the four full days of training.....
PHOTIP: Flowers are natural subjects this time of year. Get in
close, notice the foreground & background, too.
For those
with DSLR's remember to use a small aperture. Use single flowers or
groups of odd numbers for the most pleasing pix.
Blessings!
