My Quandary
It's one piece in Atlanta @ AAC 7th Annual National Show ....not an image from my oral surgery...
Greetings! Hope you're well----I'm feeling better despite the traumatic root canal I had on Monday.
Not traumatic as in something tragic happened, but as a whole, complete, unpleasant thing to do for
a couple of hours. They kept offering me nitrous oxide, which is good in itself if you are doing something
enjoyable, but not during something you dread like oral surgery. Anyway, the methods haven't really
changed in the last ten years since my last one. I was kinda hoping it would be really quick & easy. Not a chance!
Now for my quandary...back in June a small local museumtook artwork submissions to be considered to grace their 30th Anniversary Gala invitation. Size & date were specified.
About 3 weeks later I got the call as the winner. I thought it would be great to have my work sent out this way
for a good cause. I signed over the copyright to the collage so they could use it as they saw fit. The one shown
here is slightly different. (And, yes, my stock photography friends were horrified to learn I had signed over the
copyright....but really, where else would you use this?)
My work was used for a "save the date" postcard and last week as the invitation. Unfortunately, my name was
nowhere to be found on the invite....and there were dozens of names and companies listed. I was so disappointed
(along with some other emotions). I had looked forward to receiving it and gazing upon it with pride as I read
the line crediting me with the cover. And, yes, knowing friends and neighbors would also see it. I admit,
I thought it was really good design.
The problem was then what to say to the BMHC and to whom. Obviously, the invitations would not be going out
again. There's a site for the event, so I checked the website & there was no credit line there either. Did I have
a valid complaint? I ended up writing several drafts of an email explaining my disappointment and
requesting to be put on the website. They apologized for the oversight and quickly added me to the website.
Here it is: Just click.
PHOTO TIP: Don't be afraid to nicely ask to be given credit for your work. Most people want to give it to you.
BLESSINGS!
