A weird mushroom & a shredded leaf
Hi! What a beautiful day we're having down here in JVille---still plenty warm, but a little breeze to keep
ya cool. No comment needed on the very sad state of the Jaguars last weekend.... : {
When I was walking a couple of days ago, I saw this really cool shredded
leaf and took a cell shot of it, but decided it was worthy of my D300, and so I very carefully carried it home.
I decided to use it to show the difference a background can make in your pictures. This first one in the
paragraph above was taken on the driveway where it's been stained a dark color by acorns. It looks natural
with the acorns and the rock-like cracks of the cement.

This one had good light & great contrast from the dirt. Bad--not enough contrast with the cement.
Then I tried some monkey grass where it contrasted nicely with the green. Plants added lines.

The blue is the hood of my car. It added a little shadow & shape interest.
While I was down there shooting, I found this really weird mushroom. At first I thought it was an old
railroad stake from a railroad tie. Then I thought it might be dog poop, but it's a very strange mushroom
that grew out from under the edge of the landscaping fabric. Guess I don't really want to know what else
might be under there...
Does anyone know what kind it is? It would certainly not be a temptation to eat!
Just visited the mushroom expert.com and realized that mine's only a minor player in the weirdness
category---take a look or yourself.
PHOTOTIP: Find an interesting object and place it on different backgrounds to achieve different impact.
Cropping, contrast as well as placement in the image all contribute to the final impression. Get creative
with your photography.
Blessings!
