Seagulls: A Bird in the Hand???

Greetings!  Hope you're loving the beautiful fall weather, like are here in northeast Florida.  The Jaguars
are really in a very pitiful condition.  Nuff said.  I've got three things to tell you about today....

Over the weekend I got to meet lots of great artists & photographers at a workshop.  Art Business Coach,
Alyson B. Stanfield, graced our lovely state to help artists with their marketing.  She has such a wealth of
excellent information in her weekly e-newsletter and on the Art Biz site.  On top of that, she's a delightful
person who sincerely wants to help us starving artists.  I highly recommend you sign up for the free newsletter.

Next on the menu, so to speak, was my lunch.  Well, actually left overs.  The workshop was at the Hampton
Inn in the little shrimping town of Fernandina----just about the first city on the Atlantic coast of Florida.
The hotel was steps from the marina, so I went over there to eat outside & soak up some sunshine.  I had
my camera with me & carefully laid out my scraps on the railing to attract the scavengers.

Then I stood with my finger on the trigger.  It's not exactly easy to capture birds in flight, but the seagulls
are willing to come in very close to pick up a bit of lunch.  I only had a few takers, but they were very
determined.  Normally on Jacksonville Beach, they will form a huge cloud of hungry swoopers, almost
reminiscent of "The Birds".

The free lunch crowd at the Marina was more polite & cooperative.  I got a few good shots in the air,
and better ones when they landed for a a chance to grab a piece of crust.  I discovered several different
wing shapes as the birds performed their aerobatics.

Lastly, I want to remind you of the 30th Gala at the Jacksonville Beaches Museum on Saturday
night, October 23rd, from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  It's their annual party/fundraiser.  For more insight into that,
refer to the post MY QUANDARY from September 15th.

PHOTO TIP:  Some birds are easy to attract with a bit of food.  You can preset your focus on the food
and capture the image with they arrive.  Or you can try to get them in the air as they approach.  This may hard
to do if you have a small point and shoot.  The shutter is usually too slow to capture exactly what you want.

Blessings!
