A Journey to Remember

Hi---Hope your new year is off to a great start!   Can't say that for the Jags, obviously...sad.
I'm happy to report we did find snow in our quest to the cold north.  Even saw some very
long icicles dangling off some mountainside rocks.

We decided at the last minute to accept an invitation to spend the New Years weekend at
a ski resort in North Carolina.  Didn't quite realize at the time that it was about 500 miles
away.  We left Jville early (for us) on Thursday @ 6:30.....fortunately, our local Starbucks
was open.  We grabbed coffee.  Then we headed west to connect to I-95 North.

It was dark, so there really wasn't much to see at that hour, much less photograph.  In the
early parts of Georgia, the sky began to fill with color in the East .  Kinda behind us.  Not
really a very good picture at 70 mph
, but I tried.  Once the sun popped up the color left
the sky.

Not too long after the sun came up, our 8 year old grand daughter who was riding quietly
in the back reported that she felt bad.  Really bad. Throw up bad.  I offered her a piece of
spearmint gum, but she succumbed to that very unpleasant irresistible urge we've all
experienced at one time or another.  Thankfully, she had only had some juice---because
she went directly from the bed to the car.  FUNNY, her parents never mentioned she
got car sick easily.... We connected with I-26 and much later Brevard & little SR 64.

At the NC border we found a little snow, the grand daughter learned how to ski on Friday,
and even went down the big hill---Sapphire Valley only has one.  I never said it was the skiing
mecca of the east.  Saturday was rainy & snow turned to ice.  Sunday we began winding our
way slowly out of the mountains.....and you guessed it, we had to stop for tossing the
breakfast.  Unfortunately, we didn't realize that if you can get carsick on straight roads,
you will definitely get carsick on little curvy ones.

Thankfully, she felt much better afterwords.

PHOTO TIP:  Find out ahead of time if your traveling companions get carsick, and
drug them
prior to take off if needed.  It works.  Keep your camera handy, but don't
expect great shots will unless you can stop & take your time along the way.

BLESSINGS IN 2011!
