Wedding shots & ideas
GREETINGS! Still sweltering down here...gotta be quick 'cause we’re departing for a high
school reunion this weekend. I’ve got a few of the wedding pix to show you, I’ve sent so
many hours looking at them & editing them----it seemed like a good idea somehow---okay,
so I couldn’t think of anything else. (Are you happy now?)

The wedding was at a beautiful resort hotel in a beautiful rose garden. It was a great
venue for the ceremony. The late afternoon sun was partially blocked by building, but is was
spotty in the trees & bright in the tree tops. Not many of the actual roses showed up, though
the bushes did. I will have to add roses to some of those later.
I had explored the grounds two days before the wedding, so I had some shots in mind.
Thankfully, the bride & groom were willing to take time to create some of them: the garden,
under a tree, on a bench, going up & down stairs, on the landing, under an archway, by an
ivy covered wall & ending at the “lagoon” (man made pond) by the outside the reception.

The Princess has so many architectural elements--many that we didn’t get to---but then
there were about 50 people awaiting their arrival at the reception. The sun was setting....
so, all in all they were very patient with me.
Along the way, a bright shaft of light from the setting sun was blazing through the buildings.
It made an interesting slash of light on the walkway. I turned the image into a black & white
for the softer mood & to show off the lines of light.

Another unexpected element as we walked around the grounds was a little bunny. There
are lots of rabbits & gophers here, but this was a baby eating the grass. The groom tried
to pet it---but the bunbun took off in a shot.
The setting sun provided a very strong backlight once we were on the western side of the
property. If you expect that, you can plan to pump up your flash as needed. Otherwise you
will end up with silhouettes. It made a nice outline & lit up the water behind them quite nicely.

PHOTOTIP: Be sure to scope out the grounds ahead of time & look for interesting places
to compose your shots. If possible, go at the same time of day so you’ll know what to expect.
BLESSINGS!
