Uploading pix to Facebook

GREETINGS!  Love seeing those old pix on Fb?  Got some of your own you’d like to upload
from the film era?  Well, I recently attended my 40th HS reunion & brought some old
pictures, from way back in the elementary school days.

People loved seeing them---couldn’t believe I still had them.  As you know from
previous blogs, I am not a hoarder, just an indiscriminate collector.  Anyway, I promised
to put them on Facebook and here’s how you can do it, too.

The bigger print you start with, the better.  Take them outside to open shade---a spot
that has bright light, but is in the shadow of something.  Avoid direct light.  The front or back
porch is usually perfect. Light is softer when it’s at a lower angle, so morning or evening are best.
Turn off the flash.

Next you need to lay them down flat.  I put mine on the tile floor.  Then I hold
the camera directly above the old photo.  Just straddle it, if you have to.  Make sure you
focus on something in the picture.  If you have a small point & shoot, put it on one of
the higher resolutions.  Try to fill up the frame as much as possible without zooming in.
Wide angle lenses take in more light & are easier to hold steady.  Zoom in on the second
shot & compare.

Why not just use a flash?  It will probably end up reflecting off something in the picture,
especially if it’s a glossy one.  You can have the same problem with a scanner.

Once it looks good, transfer it to a folder on your computer to edit.  You’ll probably need
to adjust the contrast/lighting or sharpening.   Many programs do a good job with “Auto”
fix modes.  Then you might want to crop out anything distracting.

Fb will downsize the image for viewing when you upload it.  Go to your homepage,
click on photo from your drive, choose album, name it, navigate to your oldies folder &
upload. It doesn't take long to upload.  Even the old ads are interesting.

PHOTOTIP:  Just remember that anything you put on Facebook can be downloaded
and printed at a pretty good size.  If you're worried about a photo, keep it small and put
a copyright on it.

BLESSINGS!
