Posting to Craig's List

GREETINGS!  Still sweatin down here---all day every day.  Lots of tourists with
sunburns outlining their bathing suits.  Had a great fireworks display in Jax Beach,
but the traffic afterwards was a nightmare.

Need to sell something for a bit of extra cash?  Sometimes Craig’s list is a good choice.
We’ve sold 5 items recently, but we’ve got another 15 listed.  So, why do some things
sell quickly and others don’t?  Personally, I think timing (& pricing) have a lot to do with it.
The right person has to be looking when you’re selling.  Snowsuits, for instance, probably move
faster in the fall than on July 4th in Florida.

Here are some PHOTOTIPS  on how to prepare and upload your images.
Use a camera. The bigger file size you start with, the better.  You will get more detail,
even when it’s downsized at the end.  Take your moveable items outside to open shade---
a spot that has bright light, but is in the shadow of something.  A front or back porch is
usually perfect.  An open garage can also work, if your garage is neat with open spaces
(unlike mine).

Light is softer when it’s at a lower angle, so morning or evening are good times to shoot.
Anything with glass may reflect light colored objects nearby.  Sometimes just moving
your position can fix that.  A flash will end up reflecting off anything glass. shiny or glossy.
Other objects might benefit from adding a flash.

Look for the most uncluttered background possible.  I like to use the gray tile of the portico.
Artwork looks best hanging on the wall.  People are turned off by a picture of a sloppy room.
Take time to clear off your junk before you take your sofa’s portrait.  Take a couple of
close ups to show the brand, fabric or texture of an object if it’s important.

Take several shots of each item from different angles. Transfer your images to your computer
and then into a Craig’s list folder to edit.  Throw out the bad ones.  You’ll probably need to
adjust the contrast/lighting, but some “auto” fixes work well.  Lastly, crop out anything unnecessary.  2x3 inches or smaller @72 resolution works well. Rename each image by what
is in the photo so they are easy to find.

Then you can search for Craigs List + your city, create an account, post an item for sale,
upload the pix from your folder, type in the secret code & voila`. . . you’re in business.

BLESSINGS!
