Captain Kirk at a Funeral

GREETINGS!  Hope you are cool.  It’s so hot down here that we exist only because we are able to run from one air conditioned space to another i.e., house to car to store to car to house.  The other day when I got back into my car it read 108º on my temp for the outside air.  Sweltering...we press on.

We attended another funeral last week.  This was a friend we had know for about 15 years.  He was married with three daughters all in their early teens.  He fought the cancer gallantly for the last two years.  Gary was a positive, cheerful inspiration to us all.  So is his sweet wife.  They’re both around 40.  Too young to see what they have seen.

One thing I learned about Gary is that he was a big Star Trek Fan.  BIG as in going to conventions & collecting stuff.  The pictures displayed in the church foyer had lots of fond family memories as well as an autographed picture of “Scotty” and a lazer gun.

But, inside, at the front of the church sanctuary, there stood a cardboard cut out of Captain Kirk.  He was there for the entire memorial---now that I think about it, he could hardly have left.   At the end of the service we were told to “live long & prosper” as the Vulcan sign was raised in parting.  It added a unique & fun element.  Is that weird to say?  Anyway, Gary’s funeral is one I’ll definitely remember.

The Captain was later moved into the foyer, so I took his picture & then played around with it on my computer to improve the poor quality image from the phone.  I'll have to ponder who to have at my funeral one day.

                                                Beam me up, Scotty

PHOTOTIP: When you go somewhere without your camera, remember your phone.  They can usually take an image in pretty low light.  Use the highest resolution and
then try to improve it in Topaz Adjust & then Photoshop.
I copied the green & flipped it horizontally.  Then smoothed the edge.  I left the line on the left because he faded into shadow & lost shape and definition without it.  Then did a motion blur for the “transporter” effect.

BLESSINGS!

With reference to whom or what should be displayed at your funeral, hummmm, is there an animated racoon character or how about a LARGE Panera's Bagel? IDK.....we'll give it some thought! How about a camera on a tripod aimed at the mourners?
