Topaz...a sparkling gem?

GREETINGS! Wow, we’re suddenly in the middle of winter ...burr.  It’s 5:30 and right now it’s 66º with a low of 49º predicted.  Two days ago we were using the air conditioner.  Time to get out the sweaters, jackets, sweats, long underwear, electric blankets, socks & boots.

I would love to find a place not too many hours from JVille that has some beautifully colored leaves to shoot.  We have pines, water oaks, magnolias, oleanders, crepe myrtles, lots of moss and grass.  Not very scenic.  I would love suggestions of great locations in south Georgia.

I’ve been attending lots of free webinars lately.  They feature a product, great images and usually an excellent photographer.  Some give away a copy of their product, all give a discount for attending.  It’s a great place to see how to make better use of the product and ask questions.

Topaz is a great plug in for Adobe
CS & P
SE9.  You can get a free 30 day trial of it to experiment with.  (Does Topaz Labs pay me for this---unfortunately, no.  Do I wish they would--yes.)  I decided to take an image and experiment with the built in presets.  You choose the style, see the preview and then tweak it as desired.  These are using Topaz Adjust.  Above is my original, taken in a church.

Simplify created a soft glow and a softened image.
Equalize strives to even out the light distributed throughout the picture.

Psychedelic brings out lots of details, but the image looks much darker.  Colorful images explode.
Drama brings out more of the light areas and overall contrast.  Both of these have brought out the detail in the wall behind the candles.  Compared with those above.

Neutralizer
takes away the orange color cast that occurs in low light.  It works on any color.
Next, I added a ghostly green by simply moving the built in hue slider. Lost detail in the fog.

Lastly, I used Pencil sketch which is in black & white, as a charcoal pencil should be.  I think I might like that one best of all.  How about you?

PHOTOTIP:  Attend some free webinars to see what major software plug ins can do for your images.  Some of them are absolutely amazing.  It may or may not be what you’re looking for.  If it is, you’ll be rewarded with better understanding AND a discount.

BLESSINGS!
